Press Release:
Two heavyweight contenders have their sights set on the summit of their division, but only one will get closer to the top in the co-main event of the Mbilli-Derevyanchenko showdown. Arslanbek ‘The Lion’ Makhmudov will face Top Rank’s protégé Guido ‘The Gladiator’ Vianello in a clash where the striking power of both men will leave no room for error, on August 17 at the Videotron Centre.
Nicknamed ‘The Lion,’ Arslanbek Makhmudov (19-1, 18 KOs), is hungrier than ever since recovering from a double fracture in his right hand sustained halfway through a loss to current heavyweight contender Agit Kabayel. Last May, in his return to the ring, the ‘Lion’ nearly sent Serbian giant Miljan Rovcanin out of the ring in a victory secured in less than 2 rounds. On August 17, he will aim to continue this momentum, to defeat Vianello a second time, now in the professional ranks, and move closer to the top echelons of the division.
Guido Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs) is not arriving defeated, however. In fact, the gladiator from Italy arrives more confident than ever. Last April, he came very close to pull off the upset against Nigerian colossus Efe Ajagba. Despite a split decision loss, Vianello felt like the winner.
Also in action, the terrifying Cuban tornado and IBO super-middleweight world champion, Osleys Iglesias (11-0, 10 KOs) will attempt to wreak as much havoc in Quebec as he did in Montreal. We recall that Iglesias just came off an electrifying performance last June 6. His recent victory, secured in just one round against Evgeny Shvedenko, will certainly be a contender for the Knockout of the Year 2024.
On the undercard, combining the best talents from north and south of the border, Wilkens Mathieu (9-0, 6 KOs) and Leïla Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO) will be back in front of their own in Quebec City. The always spectacular boxer from Thetford Mines, Thomas ‘The Ghost’ Chabot (10-0, 8 KOs) will also be in action as well as EOTTM’s newest recruit, Dzmitry Asanau (7-0, 3 KOs), who will make his Quebec boxing debut.
And finally, Top Rank will also contribute by bringing one of its brightest prospects, 20-year-old prodigy Abdullah Mason (13-0, 11 KOs), who will fight in an 8-round lightweight bout. The 21-year-old New Yorker Jahi Tucker (11-1-1, 5 KOs) will also step into the Videotron Centre, in an 8-round middleweight fight.
