Julio Cesar Martinez Vacates His WBC Flyweight Title To Campaign At Super Flyweight

Julio Cesar Martinez (21-3 15 KOs) reign as WBC Flyweight Champion is over. Martinez has vacated his title to move up to the Super Flyweight division.

Martinez won the vacant WBC Flyweight in 2019 defeating Cristofer Rosales by ninth round TKO. Since becoming Champion, Martinez has made seven successful title defenses with only one loss during this period. Roman Gonzalez defeated Martinez in a Super Flyweight contest in 2022 by unanimous decision.

There are some big possible fights ahead for Martinez at Super Flyweight. He could face the winners of the upcoming title bouts this summer.

On June 29th Juan Francisco Estrada will face Jessie 'Bam' Rodriguez for the WBC/Ring Super Flyweight titles. A week later on July 7th, Kazuto Ioka will face Fernando Martinez to unify the WBA and IBF titles. WBO Flyweight Champion Kosei Tanaka will likely make a title defense in July.

Newly crowned WBC Interim Champion Pedro Guevara will likely be Martinez target next. Guevara defeated Andrew Moloney on May 11th by Split Decision.
