Tim Tszyu Will Defend His WBO Title Against WBC Interim Champion Brian Mendoza October 15th

Tim Tszyu (23-0 17KOs) will make the first defense of his WBO Super Welterweight title against the WBC Interim Champion Brian Mendoza (22-2 16KOs) on October 15th in Australia. No Limit Boxing Promotions announced this event during a press conference today in Australia. Showtime will stream this event live in the US.

Tszyu 28, will officially become the WBO champion as soon as the historic fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo begins. Charlo will be stripped of his WBO title because of order to fight Tszyu by September 30th was not fulfilled. Tszyu is coming off two back to back knockouts over known opponents. Tony Harrison was stopped in the 9th round in March and Carlos Ocampo was blitz inside of a round in June.

Mendoza 29, is coming off an upset of the year candidate when he stopped Sebastian Fundora in 7th round in April to win the WBC Interim title. Mendoza is on an impressive three fight winning streak all stoppages wins over Jeison Rosario, Benjamin Whitaker and Fundora.

Tszyu-Mendoza as it stands now will be for the WBO title. However, the WBC could elevate Mendoza to full champion making this a big unification fight.
