WBO Orders Anthony Olascuaga To Face Mandatory Challenger Jonathan Gonzalez

Newly crowned WBO Flyweight Champion Anthony Olascuaga (7-1 5KO's) has been ordered to face mandatory challenger Jonathan 'Bomba' Gonzalez (28-3 14KO's). Purse bid is scheduled for August 9, 2024.

Olascuaga 25, defeated Riku Kano by knockout in the 3rd round their vacant WBO title fight on July 20th in Japan. His previous title opportunity came up short, when he lost to unified Light Flyweight Kenshiro Teraji by technical knockout in the 9th round. Olascuaga fought bravely in defeat after taking the fight on short notice. Ironically, Gonzalez pulled out of the fight with Teraji to allow Olascuaga to get the opportunity.

Gonzalez 33, former WBO Light Flyweight Champion, returns back to the flyweight division after reigning for three years. Gonzalez defeated Elwin Soto in 2021 to capture his first world title. Gonzalez faced Rene Santiago in March and retained his title by unanimous decision. After the fight Gonzalez decided to vacate his title to chase after a second division title against Olascuaga.
