The Women's Super Bantamweight division is gearing up for a potential unified title fight in the near future. This Saturday, June 10th, both champions Mayerlin Rivas (WBA) and Cherneka Johnson (IBF) will make their mandatory title defenses.
The Venezuelan naive Rivas will defend her title against the undefeated Argentine fighter Nazarena Romero at the WBA KO Drugs event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Rivas signed a promotional pact with Matchroom in 2022, and this is her second fight of that deal.
The Australian Champion Johnson will defend her title on the road against Catford's Ellie Scotney. Johnson recently signed with Lou Dibella before striking a deal with Scotney's promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing.
DAZN will stream Johnson-Scotney live as part of the Sunny Edwards vs. Andres Campos card. Rivas-Romero will be shown on DAZN on tape-delay later that day. The winners of this unofficial tournament will likely unify against each other later in 2023.
